Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were widely used in UK buildings up until 1999. Left undisturbed, they may pose minimal risk, but once a demolition, strip-out, or refurbishment begins, disturbing asbestos can release dangerous airborne fibres.
UK law requires a Refurbishment & Demolition Survey to be completed before any intrusive work begins regardless of the building’s age. Failure to manage asbestos properly is not just unsafe — it’s illegal.
